Transportation of balloons

Updated: Oct 7, 2024

How many balloons can fit in a car or how to transport balloons?

A balloon filled with air or helium is quite a voluminous thing. Therefore, it is not easy to transport ready-made balloons. The first question is whether the balloons will fit in the car, and if so, how many? When we talk about regular round balloons, everything is calculated quite simply. The volume of one standard balloon, 30 centimeters in size, is approximately 15 liters. The trunk of a small sedan is about 500 liters, so, theoretically, 33 balloons will fit in the trunk. Most likely, the same amount will fit in the cabin. But you need to understand that the shape of the balloons and the elements of the trunk/cabin will not allow you to place the balloons very tightly, roughly speaking, a balloon in every hole, and the doors must close. Therefore, 40-55 balloons will fit in the empty trunk and cabin of a small sedan. If you have a business class car or an SUV, then we can talk about 70 or even 90 balloons.

Also, keep in mind that significantly fewer balls will fit in a car in a bag than without a bag, but with a bag they will be better protected from mechanical impacts.

The second important question is whether the balloons will explode during transportation?

In fact, this option is not excluded. In order to minimize this probability, it is necessary that the balloons after inflating them, hang indoors for half an hour to an hour (if untreated), one and a half hours (if treated). In an hour, the balloons with defects (production or factory defect) will burst. In addition, in an hour and a half, the chemicals inside the treated balloons will polymerize (dry) and they will become stronger. At the same time, it would be great if the car is not hot, dusty and direct sunlight does not fall on the balloons. Heat can lead to an excessive increase in the volume of the balloon and its explosion. Dust, like sandpaper, affects the thin latex of the balloon, rubbing it until holes appear. Direct sunlight leads to oxidation of the balloon and thinning of its walls. Therefore, the car should be clean, cool, dark and spacious, so that the chances of transporting the balloons intact are higher.

The third thing you have to deal with is loading and unloading. There are several nuances here. You need to have some manual dexterity, which will allow you to load these balls into the car. Then, with the same dexterity, you need to unload them so that they do not fly away. At the same time, if the car body is dirty on the outside, then the balls can not only get dirty, but also burst. So, for loading and unloading you need a pair, or even two pairs of dexterous hands and a clean car.

Do not forget that the balloons limit visibility. Most likely, after loading, the rear window will be closed for viewing. But the worst thing is that if you load more balls than necessary, they can block the side mirrors, and this is already very dangerous. If you are not confident behind the wheel and have no idea how to move without having a view through the rear window, it is better to use delivery services.

And finally, the balloons need to be brought indoors. In short, there is a high probability of damaging the balloons in the entrances and long corridors of office buildings. If you transport and deliver the balloons yourself, be prepared for the fact that no one will compensate you for damaged balloons. When transporting in the cold season, before entering a warm room, you should wait 5-10 minutes at the entrance hall so that the temperature inside the balloons equalizes with the room temperature and the sharp expansion of helium does not "burst" them.
